Rick Gibson, Attorney and Southern Illinois Elder Care Owner


Rick grew up in St. Louis with his parents, two brothers, a sister, and a dog. He earned a Bachelor's degree at Quincy College, and graduated from Notre Dame's law school in 1985. Today he works at the law practice he started for people like his parents — Southern Illinois Elder Law. He currently lives in Godfrey with his wife Missy. They have two sons, a daughter-in-law, and will soon become grandparents for the very first time.


Rick is the author of three books that illustrate his expertise in elder law:

• Consumer’s Guide to Medicaid Planning (2007)

• Medicaid: From Qualifying Clients to Applying for Benefits (2008)

• Consumer’s Guide to Medicaid and VA Planning (2010 and 2012)


He has also been a featured speaker for the National Business Institute Seminar for Lawyers and Financial Professionals, and for the Illinois State Bar Association.

Kate has been a legal assistant for 15 years, working in a number of legal fields. She's a patient professional who will help you assemble the information needed for estate planning, probate, and VA benefits planning.  Kate presently lives in Bethalto with her husband Nick, and their sons Ryder and Reid. At home, she greatly enjoys riding on a Harley with her husband, watching her oldest play sports, and snuggling with her baby.

Mary Rosenow, Legal Assistant

Mary has been Rick's legal assistant for over a decade. She will walk you through gathering the information that's so vital to proper planning, and will assist you with Medicaid and VA Planning.  Outside the office, Mary plays tennis, travels, and ventures out on tandem bike rides with her husband Steve. Mary has three grown children (Alicia, Ashley, and Alex) and is proud to dote on her two beautiful granddaughters.


Walter C. Ozark, Attorney

Walter grew up in Alton, and later graduated from Manchester College with degrees in Philosophy and Psychology.  After working 10 years for Madison County Court and Probation Services, he decided to attend law school at Southern Illinois University. He graduated in 2012, and soon after joined the practice. Walter lives in Alton with his wife Sarah and their three children. He's also the proud father of an adult daughter, Morgan.
